Operation Ivy
Operation Ivy fused the urgency of hardcore punk with the bounce of ska to create a sound that helped define a whole generation of ska punk. Emerging from the Berkeley punk scene in the late 1980s, the band packed sharp social commentary, community-minded politics, and raw vulnerability into anthems like "Knowledge" and "Sound System," pairing breakneck tempos with sing-along choruses that turned tiny clubs into cathartic gatherings. Their sole full-length, 'Energy', along with a small handful of EP and compilation tracks, became a blueprint for countless bands that followed, influencing everything from underground DIY scenes to mainstream punk’s explosion in the 1990s.
